As HandyBenny approaches its tenth year, I find myself looking back at where it all started. In many ways, this work has always been a natural fit for me.
Even as a kid, I enjoyed taking care of our home understanding how things worked, fixing what needed attention, and seeing the difference when a home was properly maintained.
Over the years, that interest became hands-on experience in roofing, painting, landscaping, electrical work, repairs, and construction. Working across different parts of a home gave me a broader understanding of how everything comes together and eventually, all of that experience came together in HandyBenny.
The idea behind the business is still the same today: taking care of a home should feel simple, understandable, and even enjoyable.
My Story
Local by Design
I built HandyBenny to stay local on purpose.
For me, being local is about more than being nearby. It creates a different kind of relationship. When you work in the same neighborhoods year after year, there is a greater sense of responsibility — to the homeowner, to the home, and to the quality of the work you leave behind.
I want to be able to come back. To maintain the work we’ve done, notice what has changed over time, and become familiar with the home rather than treating every visit as a completely new job.
Keeping the business close to home also allows me to be more available, communicate better, and maintain the level of professionalism I expect from HandyBenny.
The goal isn’t to work everywhere. It’s to build lasting relationships in the neighborhoods we serve.
A Home You Understand
I’ve always believed that the more you understand your home, the easier it is to take care of it.
You don’t need to know how to repair everything yourself. But knowing how things work, what to watch for, and when to ask for help gives you more confidence in the decisions you make about your home.
That’s the kind of relationship I want to have with the homeowners I work with — not just someone who comes in to fix something, but someone who helps make taking care of the home a little easier.
